Women's History Month By Ciena

Hey Guys!!! 🐾

Today, I give the floor to my sister, Ciena to speak on behalf of all women!

Hi..... I'm Ciena! My mom and I wanted to share with you the news that the month of March is Women's History Month. I have to admit, it was my mom who wrote the story below, but I helped with her edits! I even put on a pretty dress, because all of us women should feel pretty and proud too!
(P.S. All you guys out there should be proud also, of all the men that made our country great...….. it's just that March is our month to shine!!)

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
{Sources: Wikipedia, www.nwhp.org}

"March is Women’s History Month. It’s a month dedicated to honoring women for their contributions to society. The origins of Women’s History Month can be traced back to the late 1970’s, when women realized the K-12 curriculum lacked the education of women’s history and needed to be addressed. This prompted a week-long celebration of women’s history the week of March 8, by a school district in Sonoma, California in 1978. The event was planned around International Women’s Day, March 8, which honors the movement for women’s rights.
In 1979, in recognition of this event, the Smithsonian Institute, Sarah Lawrence College, and the Women’s Action Alliance held a conference regarding women’s history. The outcome was an agreement to support the effort to create a National Women’s History Week. Subsequently in February 1980, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed March 8, as National Women’s History Week. The following year, Senator Orrin Hatch and Representative Barbara Mikulski co-sponsored a joint resolution declaring Women’s History Week beginning March 7, 1982.
Congress continued passing joint resolutions designating a week in March as Women’s History Week. By 1986, 14 states declared the month of March as Women’s History Month. This state-by-state action provide the justification used by the National Women’s History Project to successfully lobby Congress to designate the month of March as Women’s History Month in 1987. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women’s History Month to honor the achievements of American women.
Women have played a pivotal role throughout our history. A few notable examples include: Susan B. Anthony who paved the way for the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, to Amelia Earhart who inspired women aviators with her cross Atlantic flight, to Eleanor Roosevelt known as the “First Lady of the World” for her human rights achievements, to Rosa Parks referred to as “the first lady of civil rights”, to “Rosie the Riveter” representing women who worked in the factories during World War II, to  Dr. Sally Ride, the first and youngest American woman in space to orbit the earth, and the list goes on and on. Our heritage is our pride!"

For The Love of Dogs Dedicated to Emma

Hey Guys!🐾

This blog is dedicated today to a seven year old little girl named Emma, who has a rare brain tumor and asked for love letters from dogs for comfort. You can help by reading her touching story at:

So, today my story is about when we moved into our new house. In the beginning when we first move in, I was afraid to go to bed by myself. So my dad bought my mom a plaque for Christmas with a really nice prayer on it and she reads it to me and Ciena to alot! The prayer is as follows:

 "A Dog's Bedtime Prayer"
(Author Unknown)

Now I lay me down to sleep
The king-size bed is soft and deep
I sleep right in the center groove
The people here can hardly move
I've trapped their legs
They're tucked in tight....
And here is where I spend the night.

No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and I want food...
I sneak up slowly to begin
And lick a nose or a bit of chin
For morning's here, it's time to play
I know the food is on its way.

Thank you, Lord for giving me
These wonderful people that I see...
The ones who hug and hold me tight
And share the bed with me at night.

I hope you like the prayer, but as you can see I still like to take my dog buddy, Spike, to bed with me!
As always, it's paws up and high five!!!

wagging-tail.png

Hey Guys!🐾

My mom was in one of her bored and crazy moods today...just check it out....poor Ciena!!!!

These are not my intelligent words (but should be) they came from this author mom really likes:
“I’ve seen a look in a dogs’ eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.” By John Steinbeck

Chewy - " It Could Have Been a Tragedy"

Hey Guys This is Serious!

Ciena will never learn her lesson, you ask why? Well, yesterday morning she found the bathroom rubber doorstop and decided to chew on it and she swallowed a piece of the rubber. Mom didn't know, but I saw her chewing it! Mom was taking us out to the bathroom when Ciena brought her the chewed up doorstop. Mom freaked and went searching to find the piece or pieces of the chewed off rubber, but she couldn't find any. She remembered when I was a puppy when I ate part of my rubber squeaky bone, she immediately called the vet 's office. They asked mom what happened and she told them. Then they instructed her to give me hydrogen peroxide and how much to make me throw up and boy did it work! I threw up a bunch of chewed up rubber pieces, much to mom's relief (maybe not mine)! The vet told her that I should be ok once I puked, but to just keep an eye on me for the day and she did. I turned out ok, but I blame my bad habits on being a dog who can seriously destroys toys (even today) and because I was a puppy who didn't know any better!! That's why mom and dad buy us only the most durable toys and they still keep an eye on us when we play with them. They even make sure the house is puppy proofed!

Also, my mom doesn't take any chances with us if she thinks that we may have eaten anything that could harm us, because several years ago mom lost her golden retriever due to similar circumstances. At the time, mom didn't know that her dog only two years old ate a piece of plastic. When the dog wouldn't eat and kept vomiting, she took her to the vet's office where they kept her for observation. Three days later the vet called mom and told her that her beloved dog died. Mom was distraught and crying, asking the vet what happened, how could she have died? The vet didn't have any answers and mom asked him to take care of her dog's final arrangements. The vet felt sorry for mom and did a partial autopsy to find out the cause of death and found that the dog ate a small piece of plastic which caused a blockage in the intestines, therefore the dog couldn't stop vomiting and subsequently went into shock and died.

So mom was surprised when Ciena chewed the doorstop cause she never took an interest in it before plus it's been under the main bathroom door for months. I guess goofy Ciena just couldn't resist giving it a go to see how it tasted. Since mom couldn't find the missing rubber pieces, she decided that after we went to the bathroom, she was going to give Ciena the hydrogen peroxide to be on the safe side. I went out to the bathroom first cause I can never wait and when we came in, Ciena had thrown up a pretty good size piece of rubber. Mom cleaned it up and washed the rubber piece to see if it was the whole missing piece from the stopper or if anything else was missing. It looked like it was all there, but she called the vet's office anyways. The vet said that Ciena should be alright and if there were any small pieces in her that she should eventually pass them. What a relief!!! She really loves ❤ us so!

Mom told me to tell you all that if you think that your dog may have eaten anything that can be potentially harmful to them, do not wait, call your vet or their emergency back right away, they will instruct you as to what to do and whether you need to bring them in to the vet's office. It can be matter of life or death for your pet! My mom knows only too well.

P.S. No more doorstops in our house!

Till next time it's paws up and don't forget to hug your pet(s)!

Nose Prints - Chewy???????????????

Hey Guys, I'm Back! 🐾

I thought that I would provide you with some interesting and useful information for all you window washers!  Did you know, and I read it on the website "Facts Daily" a while back, that a "dogs nose prints are as unique as a human's finger prints"! Mom's always complaining that she has to clean our nose prints off the windows all the time, but unless there's a database of dog's nose prints, she can NEVER figure out who the culprit is that messed up her windows. Just check out the pics. below, maybe that will help her figure it out! Ya think? HA BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
