March 23, 2021 - National Puppy Day

 HI GUYS!🐾

Today is National Puppy Day!

Did you know that National Puppy Day was created in 2006, by a lady named Colleen Paige? I wasn't even born yet.....imagine that! Even though me and Ciena aren't puppies anymore, our mom still calls us her babies!!! This special day was started to fawn over and to celebrate the unconditional love that you all give to us cuddly guys and gals. So bring on some more play time, and maybe some extra treats.......especially if you want us to pose for those adorable photo shoots. 

This day was also created to recognize that there are so many pets in the shelters who REALLY need a forever home. My mom wrote this poem and she said that I could share it with you in honor of this day. We hope that it will open your hearts so you can bring home your special companion, whether a puppy or older dog. Ya know... no matter what our age.... we are all a bunch of four-legged, fur balls that deserve to be loved and have a forever home!  (P.S. cats are pretty cool too!!!)

 For The Love of a Shelter Dog

I am a shelter dog who watches you walk by,
I wag my tail and hope that you will give me a try. 
You see, I am not a bad dog who deserved to be left here,
Unfortunately, it is just that no one wanted me near.
I may be young, or I may be old,
I may be shy, or I may be bold. 
I may have been neglected or hurt in some way,
But I carry no grudge for I live in the moment each day.
I feel as though I have been here for so long,
Please take me to your home, for with you I belong. 
I promise to guard you and keep you safe,
If only you would have a little faith.
I will work to be good and love you so much,
For I truly need your gentle touch.
Please don’t walk away and leave me behind,
Adopt me today for it would truly be kind.

TODAY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DAYS...... FOR IT'S NATIONAL DOG BISCUIT DAY! SO GO OUT AND TREAT YOUR SPECIAL KIDS WITH LOTS OF COOKIES!!! JUST READ ABOUT IT BELOW AS MY SECRETARY....OOPS I MEAN MY MOM WROTE IT FOR US!

National Dog Biscuit Day

February 23^rd is a day to spoil your pooch with their favorite biscuit, for this is National Dog Biscuit Day also known as Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. So, bring out those treats and they will gladly forgo playing ball or that scratch on the tummy as they stand ready for a delicious biscuit, I know that mine do.

The origins of National Dog Biscuit Day are unclear, but the history behind the creation of dog biscuits is interesting. It started in the 1800’s when an English butcher tried a new recipe for biscuits and they turned out terrible, so he gave the biscuits to his dog who loved them. Before dog biscuits, dog bread was a common snack for canines. Subsequently in 1828, dog biscuits were produced on a small scale in England. Then in 1860, James Spratt from Ohio, traveled to England to produce the first large-scale manufacture of dog biscuits. It was not until 1907, that dog biscuits appeared in America for the first time in the shape of a bone which remains popular to this day. A fun fact, in 2011, the largest dog biscuit was produced by Hampshire Pet Products (USA) in Joplin, Missouri which weighed 617lbs.

On National Biscuit Day give your faithful companion a few extra dog biscuits to show your appreciation or to reward them for good behavior. Just keep in mind that experts note that normally a dog’s snacks should only make up 10% of their daily calorie intake or they risk becoming overweight. But since this is a special day, go out and stock up on your dog’s favorite biscuits or if you feel ambitious make them homemade biscuits. Homemade biscuits can be healthier for your pet as you can control what ingredients are used in them and they cost less. Personally, I enjoy baking homemade biscuits for my dogs, such as peanut butter, banana, and apple/cranberry. Ciena likes all the cookies, but Chewy’s favorite is peanut butter. Of course, they will never pass up a store-bought biscuit such as a Milk-Bone when offered, for they love their treats.

In recognition of National Dog Biscuit Day, I would like to dedicate this story to Lacey, aka “Lu Lu”, who was one of two of my precious companions that also loved my homemade dog biscuits. As the old saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”.

Februay 3rd - National Golden Retriever Day

 HEY GUYS!🐾

I REALIZE THAT I AM A LABRADOR RETRIEVER, (P.S. THE MOST POPULAR BREED), BUT TODAY MY MOM SAID THAT WE HAVE TO HONOR MY SISTER, CIENA.  YOU SEE SHE IS A GOLDEN RETRIEVER AND THIS IS HER DAY -  NATIONAL GOLDEN RETRIEVER DAY.! THEY MAKE UP HOLIDAYS FOR ANY CREATURE NOWADAYS!!!

OK, OK.......... SHE AIN'T HYPER LIKE ME WHO WANTS TO PLAY ALL THE TIME! SHE'S ACTUALLY KIND OF LAZY AND LIKES TO SLEEP ALOT! AND SHE LIKES TO HOG THE BED WITH HER BLANKET. WHAT A BABY!!!!

AND SHE RULES THE HOUSE WITH MUSHY WAY ABOUT HER........ALWAYS TRYING TO CUDDLE WITH MOM, YULK!! SHE IS SUCH A SUCK UP.... CAUSE WHEN MOM'S NOT AROUND, SHE STEALS MY TOYS AND TRIES TO EAT MY COOKIES AND THEN SHE MAKES IT LOOK LIKE I'M THE BAD ONE! I BARK AND WHINE TO MOM IN MY DEFENSE, BUT I THINK MOM IS ON TO HER AND JUST PRETENDS AND LETS HER HAVE HER WAY. SHE'S SUCH A SNEAKY BRAT!!!!! SOMETIMES SHE TRIES TO TAKE ME DOWN BY  BITING MY LEGS WHEN WE PLAY.... NO WONDER I DON'T WANT ANYONE TOUCHING MY PAWS!!!!  THANK GOD SHE'S GOT LITTLE TEETH CAUSE SHE DON'T HURT ME. 

WELL..... ACTUALLY I DO LOVE HER ALOT AND I WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT HER. SO EVEN THOUGH THIS IS MY BLOG..... I LET HER PUT OUT ONE OF HER FAVORITE PICTURES IN HONOR OF NATIONAL GOLDEN RETRIEVER DAY!

Long time no blog!  I couldn't let this day go by without having my assistant (Mom), post her article for me, cause today is National Dress Up Your Pet Day!!!!

January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. Founded in 2009, by Colleen Paige, a celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist, this day celebrates our pets and provides an opportunity to show off their fashion style. 

Pets are part of our family, and like us, they have their own personalities - whether charming. flirtatious, sassy, or tough. So, put a pretty pink bow or decorative bandana on your special girl, or dress your rugged guy in your favorite sports team pet sweater. If you are creative, you and you pet can dress in matching outfits.

Whatever accessory or outfit you choose, keep your pet's comfort and safety in mind. Remember that this time of year can be quite cold - you may want to put on their warm, fancy sweaters of those long walks. They will not only be comfortable, but stylish too. Do not dress them in anything that can restrict their movements or impair their breathing, and avoid any loose or dangling parts that might be a chocking hazard. Some pets will be resistant to playing dress-up, remember they do have their own personalities! Let your pet decide if it's better to participate or just observe.

If your pet is in a cooperative mood, have fun - and be sure to take photos and share them with family and friends, or post them on social media. Who doesn't love an adorable pet pose?? This may also be a good time for a trip to the groomer to improve appearance with a trim and freshening up.

In keeping with the spirit of this special day,  I would like to share a couple of photographs of my dogs as they posed for this occasion. I've named our celebration "Spring is just around the corner!" I hope my stylish pets bring a smile to your face.

FEBRUARY 20TH IS LOVE YOUR PET DAY!

HEY GUYS! 🐾  

Today is "Love Your Pet Day"..... yeah!!! To celebrate, my Mom says that you should go out and get your furry friend, a new toy, or special treat, or just stop what you are doing and spend some time playing with them! When my Mom listens to music and she hears one of her crazy favorite songs, she sings and dances with us! I bet she'll do that today, not to mention maybe a special treat? Get the hint...Mom! Anyways my Mom wrote this poem in honor of this wonderful day for me and Ciena. 

DOGGIE PLAY TIME

My love for my dogs is beyond measure,

For you see these two are truly my treasure.

They love and comfort me day in and day out,

I would be lost without them for there is no doubt.

Their crazy ways make me grin,

It’s time for fun when their antics begin.

Bring on the music they seem to say,

For you know it’s time for all of us to play.

They love to dance with me as they wiggle their butts,

I am grateful that these two silly dogs are really my mutts!

And sometimes we roll around and wrestle on the floor,

Now who could ask for anything more.

And when we are tired and when we stop,

It’s only because we are ready to drop.

I cherish each moment when we have time to play,

For such fun as this should happen every day.

You see each day is a blessing from above,

For my dogs lift my spirits every day with their love. 

So have a great day with those who love you and remember till next time, it's paws up and high five!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CIENA GIRL!!!!!!!!

Today is my little sister, Ciena's, birthday and she is six years old. I bet you couldn't tell by her picture....Ha!

In celebration of her birthday, Mom and Dad gave us a special treat "Frosty Paws" and sang happy birthday to the girl!!!!!

Even though I made that goofy face to make her laugh, it didn't work. She said she doesn't want people to know that she's an old lady and I said that she's just fine! Oh well, she'll get over it, cause she is beautiful and my baby sister! Anyways.... a good time was had by all!!!
